Auerbach Associates is pleased to announce that the University of Rochester has appointed Douglas Lowry as Dean of the Eastman School of Music, effective August 1, 2007.
For the last seven years, Mr. Lowry has held the position of dean of the
College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, (CCM), a dynamic
and comprehensive conservatory with eight divisions within a public research
university. For almost twenty years before that, he excelled in teaching,
performance, and academic leadership at the Flora L. Thornton School of Music at
the University of Southern California.
Mr. Lowry’s compositional premieres and other his other musical work have taken
him to venues throughout the United States and Asia as a guest conductor and
clinician of orchestras and wind ensembles. At CCM, he is recognized as a
builder of strategic partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally, and
a recruiter of important faculty.
Born in Spokane, WA in 1951, Mr. Lowry earned his bachelor of music degree in
theory and composition in 1974 from the University of Arizona, and two master’s
degrees from the University of Southern California in trombone performance and
orchestral conducting.
