We are pleased to announce that the
University has appointed Bernard Lanskey, effective January 1st,
2008.
Mr. Lanskey joined the Yong Siew Toh
Conservatory as Deputy Director in 2006, and has served as Acting Director since
March 2007. Formerly the Assistant
Director of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Mr.
Lanskey has organized a range of festivals and concert series, most recently in
association with LSO Discovery Series at St. Luke’s in London, as Artistic
Director of the 20th and 21st Paxos International Music
Festivals in Greece and with the Friends of St. Botolph’s Music in Hadstock
series.
An accomplished pianist, he has performed regularly
throughout Europe, Australia and Great Britain. His most recent work focuses on
the middle and late repertory of a succession of pianist composers – Mozart,
Beethovan, Schumann, Brahms, Debussy and Bartok. For the past seven years, Mr.
Lanskey has worked with television journalist John Suchet in lecture-recital
presentations on Beethoven and Johann Strauss. In 1988, he recorded a CD of
four-hand piano music by Brahms, Schubert and Andrew Schultz, which was released
by Tall Poppies in July 2001. A native of Australia, Lanskey originally studied
music, philosophy and mathematics in Queensland before moving to specialized
piano studies at Paris, and then at the Royal College of Music in London, where
he completed a master’s degree with Peter Wallfisch.
